Is Diverticulitis an Inevitable Disease?
According to current statistics, nearly every person alive will experience diverticulitis or Diverticulosis at some point in their life. While at first glance this statement may seem to be a scare tactic or a statistic used out of context, the sad truth is, it’s not. Diverticulitis diagnoses in the last few decades have been trending consistently upward; and over the last decade they’ve practically skyrocketed.
Why?
Some might point to the increasingly processed diet we eat these days; some might point to the increase in chemicals used in our food, living areas, etc.; and some might point to the stress we deal with in our daily lives.
Which of these is right?
Maybe all of them, maybe none of them. The truth is, doctors still don’t understand why Diverticulitis develops and what to do to stop it. They’re just making educated guesses at this point, hoping for a breakthrough to shed some light on the real reasons behind this mysterious disease.
